Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about digital memorials and legacy preservation
1. What is a digital memorial?
A digital memorial is a personalized online memorial page dedicated to a person. It allows you to preserve a life story, photos, videos, documents, memories, and messages from family and friends.
The RIP.GD platform provides comprehensive digital legacy preservation services:
- Photo processing and restoration.
- Creation of memorial videos and slideshows.
- Production of QR codes for placement on real gravestones and monuments. A smartphone allows visitors to instantly scan the QR code and go directly to the memorial page.
2. How do I create a memorial page?
After a quick registration on the website, you can create a memorial, fill in the basic information, upload media files, and publish the page.
A memorial can also be saved in hidden mode (draft). In this case, the page:
- Is not accessible to other users of the site.
- Is not indexed by search engines (Google, Bing, etc.).
- Is perfect for safely gathering information, preparing a family archive, or pre-creating a page for a living person.
3. Can someone help me create a memorial?
Yes. Step-by-step text and video tutorials are available on the website. If you do not have the time or technical skills to do it yourself, the RIP.GD team can handle the technical side for you — from restoring old photographs to final page design and QR code generation.
4. How much does it cost to create a memorial?
Creating a basic memorial is free of charge. Additional storage space for files, premium design templates, and advanced digital legacy features are available depending on your chosen subscription plan.
5. What materials can be added to a memorial page?
You can upload any materials that help tell the story of a person's life:
- Media: Photos, archival images, background music, and video links.
- Texts: A detailed biography, family stories, and memories from loved ones.
- Documents: Personal archives, awards, certificates, and publications.
Specific services, such as DNA data archiving and the creation of digital 3D models, are available to users on the Infinity plan.
6. Can I save documents within the memorial?
Yes. RIP.GD supports document uploads in PDF format. You can preserve diplomas, certificates, patents, digitized manuscripts, and family archives. If needed, our team can help combine, enhance, and structure your documents for upload.
7. Can I create a memorial for a living person?
Yes. RIP.GD functions both as a digital cemetery and as a digital family archive. Many users create memorials not only for loved ones who have passed away, but also for themselves and living family members in order to preserve photographs, life stories, achievements, documents, and family history for future generations. A memorial can remain private until the owner decides to publish it.
8. Can I reserve a spot in the digital cemetery in advance?
Yes. You may create and fully prepare a memorial page for yourself or a loved one during your lifetime. Photos, videos, documents, biographies, and other materials can be added in advance. The memorial may remain private and hidden from public view until publication.
For Infinity plan members, Digital Legacy services are available. After a death has been confirmed, a Trusted Contact or RIP.GD staff may activate and publish the memorial according to the owner's documented wishes and instructions.
9. What happens to a memorial if the account owner stops using the site?
Published memorials remain available according to the terms of the selected memorial plan. The mission of RIP.GD is to preserve memories, family history, and digital legacy for future generations through long-term archival services.
For additional protection, account owners may designate a Trusted Contact who can assist with managing memorials and digital archives if necessary. For memorials enrolled in the Infinity plan, RIP.GD's goal is permanent preservation as part of its Digital Legacy program.
10. Who can view the memorial?
You have complete control over your privacy settings:
- Public access: The page is visible to all visitors and search engines.
- Access via link / QR code: The memorial is only visible to those who have the link or who scan the QR code at the physical monument.
- Hidden mode: The page is only visible to the creator of the memorial.
11. Can relatives and friends leave memorial messages?
Yes, the page features an interactive memory wall. Visitors can leave words of support, share their own memories, and attach virtual gifts or tokens of respect.
12. How do I share the memorial with others?
Each memorial has a unique short link that can be shared via instant messengers, social networks, or email. The system also automatically generates an individual QR code, which can be printed or ordered as a plaque for a physical gravestone.
13. Can a memorial be deleted or modified?
Yes. The account owner holds the exclusive right to edit, update, or completely delete the memorial page at any time.
14. How is RIP.GD different from social media?
Social media platforms are designed for communication, news sharing, and day-to-day interactions. RIP.GD is both a digital cemetery and a digital legacy platform designed to preserve biographies, photographs, documents, family connections, and memories in a structured and meaningful way.
Unlike social media, where content is often temporary and quickly forgotten, RIP.GD focuses on long-term remembrance, family heritage, and the preservation of personal history for future generations.
15. Can I preserve my DNA?
Yes. The top-tier Infinity plan offers a unique option to integrate with partner certified DNA repositories, as well as the creation of a digital 3D model of a person. This allows you to preserve not just media files, but the fundamental biological and visual code of an individual for future scientific and genealogical research within the family.
16. What is a Digital 3D Model?
A Digital 3D Model is an interactive, photorealistic virtual recreation of a person. It is meticulously generated by advanced Artificial Intelligence using a combination of panoramic photographs, media archives, and unique genetic markers from DNA data to preserve a true-to-life digital legacy for future generations.
17. What is a Digital Legacy – Trusted Contact?
A Trusted Contact is a person you authorize to manage your digital legacy in the event of your passing or prolonged absence online.
You appoint a trusted contact in your dashboard. If your account remains inactive for a set period, the system-following a verification procedure-transfers access rights to this person.
For Infinity plan members, you may designate the RIP.GD team itself as your Trusted Contact. In this case, our staff will personally oversee the publication and final design of the memorial, strictly following your lifetime instructions.
