Biography

Yuliia Volodymyrivna Zubchenko was born on January 12, 1995, in the city of Svitlovodsk, Kirovohrad region. From her school years, she displayed a caring nature and a strong sense of responsibility. After completing nine grades, she chose the medical profession, graduating from Kremenchuk Medical College as a feldsher. Later, she continued her education at Kharkiv National Pharmaceutical University, gaining the qualification of pharmacist.

Yuliia was known for her cheerful spirit, kindness, and sociability. She loved music and sang beautifully, bringing joy to those around her. Beyond her professional skills, she was a devoted mother to her son Artem, who became the center of her life.

In December 2020, Yuliia made a decisive choice to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. She signed a contract with the National Guard and became a combat medic in the Azov Regiment. Her call sign was “Siren.” She quickly earned respect among her comrades for her dedication, professionalism, and courage. Serving as a medic, she saved lives under the most difficult conditions, embodying the spirit of selflessness and duty.

With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Yuliia was stationed in Mariupol. She worked tirelessly in field hospitals, providing aid to the wounded during the brutal siege. Despite her mother’s pleas to leave the city, Yuliia remained steadfast, convinced that her place was with her comrades and those in need of medical help.

During the heroic defense of the Azovstal steel plant, Yuliia continued her service, refusing to abandon the injured. On May 8, 2022, at the age of 27, she was killed during an airstrike on the plant. Her sacrifice became a symbol of resilience and devotion to Ukraine.

For her bravery, Yuliia Zubchenko was posthumously awarded the Order for Courage, 3rd Class.

Yuliia’s memory lives on as that of a devoted daughter, loving mother, loyal friend, and courageous defender of her homeland. Her life story reflects the strength of Ukrainian women who stood shoulder to shoulder with men in the fight for freedom. She will forever remain in the hearts of her family, comrades, and all who honor the defenders of Ukraine.
