Biography
Dmytro Ihorovych Serheiev was born on July 20, 1981, in Kyiv. He studied at the National Technical University “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and later at the National Aviation University, where he also completed military training. In civilian life, Dmytro was an entrepreneur, combining his professional activities with a wide range of interests. He was passionate about airsoft, history - both of Ukraine and the ancient world - military affairs, and cooking. He dreamed of space exploration and often spoke of one day traveling to Mars, a vision that earned him the call sign “Mars.”
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Dmytro immediately joined the Territorial Defense Forces of Kyiv. He became a platoon commander in the 130th Battalion of the 112th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade. His leadership, fairness, and determination quickly earned him respect among his comrades, who saw him as a true officer and role model.
On March 23, 2022, during the defense of Irpin, Dmytro led a combined group tasked with holding a strategic position known as “Zhyraf”. Their mission was to prevent enemy forces advancing from Bucha from breaking deeper into the city. Under heavy attack from armored units, Dmytro fought bravely until the end. He was killed in action, while several of his comrades were wounded. His sacrifice helped stop the enemy from gaining new ground and ensured that Ukrainian defenders held Irpin.
For his courage and dedication, Dmytro Serheiev was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class, and the Medal “To the Unbreakable Heroes of the Russo-Ukrainian War.”
He was laid to rest at the Southern Cemetery in the village of Vita-Poshtova, Kyiv region.
Dmytro is remembered as a devoted husband and father, a loyal friend, and a fearless defender of Ukraine.
His legacy lives on in the memorial plaque and corner of remembrance established at Kyiv Lyceum of Biotechnology No. 177, where he once studied.
His life and sacrifice remain a testament to bravery, justice, and unwavering love for his homeland.
