Biography
Denys Viktorovych Subbota was born on September 9, 1990, in Kyiv. He grew up in a large family, the youngest of four children raised by his mother. From an early age, he was hardworking and responsible, often taking on small jobs to help at home. He studied at Secondary School No. 300 in Kyiv and later worked in various trades before finding his path in the energy sector as an electrician. In his free time, Denys loved hiking in the mountains and spending time in nature, which gave him strength and peace.
After completing his conscript service, Denys signed a three-year contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Between 2016 and 2017, he served in the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone, defending Ukraine’s independence during the first years of war. In civilian life, he continued working as an electrician, planning to pursue higher education, but the full-scale invasion of 2022 changed the course of his life.
When Russia launched its full-scale assault, Denys once again took up arms to defend his homeland. He joined the 44th Separate Rifle Battalion, serving as a senior rifleman. Known by his call sign “Elektro,” he fought with determination and courage, standing side by side with his comrades in some of the most difficult battles of the war. His resilience and loyalty made him a trusted companion and a respected soldier.
On December 30, 2022, during combat near the village of Terny in Donetsk region, Denys was killed in a mortar strike on Ukrainian positions.
His sacrifice was honored by his comrades and community, who remembered him as a devoted son, brother, and friend, a man who always came to the aid of others and dreamed of building a family of his own.
Denys Subbota was laid to rest on the Alley of Heroes at Lisove Cemetery in Kyiv.
His memory endures as that of a fearless defender, a man of integrity and kindness, whose life and sacrifice will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones and the nation he gave his life to protect.
