Biography
Ihor Hennadiiovych Liashenko was born on February 19, 1989, in the village of Peremoha, Shostka district, Sumy region. From childhood, he was active in community life, singing in the school choir, performing on the local stage, and showing a passion for sports. He played football in district competitions and was a member of the basketball team, earning recognition for his energy and dedication.
After finishing school, Ihor sought opportunities to support himself and his family. In 2006, he moved to Kyiv for work, later returning to Sumy region where he was employed at the Glukhiv Quartzite Quarry and on the “North” highway in Sumy. Despite his busy schedule, he remained engaged in the sporting life of his community, continuing to play and compete locally.
In August 2022, Ihor voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He served as a reconnaissance soldier in the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade of the Air Assault Forces. On the front lines in the Luhansk and Donetsk directions, he distinguished himself through bravery and selflessness, often risking his own life to save his comrades.
His devotion to duty was matched by his deep bond with his family. Even while at war, he found time to send daily words of love and encouragement to his mother, maintaining a connection that gave her strength.
On May 8, 2024, during fierce battles near Bilohorivka in the Sievierodonetsk district of Luhansk region, Ihor was fatally wounded in an enemy artillery strike.
His funeral took place on May 15 in the village of Banychi, Shostka district, where he was laid to rest with honor.
For his courage and sacrifice, Ihor was recognized with several distinctions, including the Ministry of Defense award “For Wounds,” the honorary badge “Sign of Respect,” the badge “For Military Valor,” and posthumously, the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class. These honors reflect his steadfast commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and freedom.
The memory of Soldier Ihor Liashenko, a devoted son of Ukraine, a fearless reconnaissance fighter, and a man of integrity, will remain alive in the hearts of his family, comrades, and community. His life and ultimate sacrifice are a shining example of unparalleled resilience and deepest love for his homeland.
