Biography

Vasyl Oleksandrovych Kozub was born on June 30, 1988, in the city of Pavlodar, Kazakhstan. In childhood, he moved with his family to Novoukrainka in Kirovohrad region, where he attended School No.3. Later, he studied at the Kyiv Academy of International Economics and International Relations, graduating with honors as an economist. Vasyl was known for his diligence and energy, excelling in his studies and maintaining a wide circle of friends. He enjoyed swimming, loved animals, and found joy in working in the family garden. In civilian life, he worked as a store manager in Kyiv, where his professionalism and reliability earned him respect.

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Vasyl joined the Territorial Defense Forces of Kyiv. He served in the 112th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade, taking part in the defense and liberation of Kyiv region. Later, his unit was deployed to the eastern front, where he continued to fulfill his duty with courage and determination.

His comrades knew him by the call sign “Buzok,” and remembered him as a man of integrity, loyalty, and resilience.

On May 31, 2022, during combat near the settlement of Komyshuvakha in Luhansk region, Vasyl was killed while carrying out a mission. He was 33 years old, just one month short of his 34th birthday.
His sacrifice was deeply felt by his family, friends, and community, who honored him as a true defender of Ukraine.

Vasyl Kozub was laid to rest on the Alley of Heroes in Novoukrainka, Kirovohrad region.

Posthumously, he was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Novoukrainka.
He will always be remembered as a kind and hardworking man, and a courageous warrior whose life and sacrifice will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones and Ukrainian nation.
