Biography

Volodymyr Mykhailovych Koliada was born on July 21, 1989, in the village of Reklynets, Lviv region. From childhood, he was active and creative, singing in the school choir and helping his parents with household work. After finishing school, he studied at the Lviv National Agrarian University. In January 2014, he joined the Revolution of Dignity as part of the 10th Sotnia of the Maidan Self-Defense, where he received the call sign “Zhyvchyk.” His commitment to freedom and justice became the guiding principle of his life.

Later that year, Volodymyr volunteered for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From November 2014, he fought in the Anti-Terrorist Operation, defending positions in Vodyane, Opytne, and the Donetsk airport. He was among the “cyborgs” who held the airport against overwhelming enemy attacks. In March 2015, he was wounded while rescuing a comrade during battle, yet his spirit remained unbroken. Over the years, he signed several contracts with the Armed Forces, continuing his service with resilience and dedication.

Outside of military life, Volodymyr loved Ukrainian folk songs and traveling, exploring nearly all regions of his country. In 2019, he founded a family farm in his native village, cultivating berries with his relatives. His life reflected both devotion to his homeland and care for his community.

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Volodymyr once again took up arms. He fought in the defense of Kyiv, Irpin, Hostomel, and Bucha, later serving on the Chernihiv front. In April, he became a senior reconnaissance sniper in the 49th Separate Assault Battalion “Carpathian Sich.” On November 9, 2022, during combat near the village of Terny in Donetsk region, Volodymyr was fatally wounded by a mine explosion while carrying out a mission.

For his courage and sacrifice, Volodymyr Koliada was awarded numerous honors, including the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class, the “Carpathian Sich Cross,” and several distinctions recognizing his service in the defense of Ukraine.

He was laid to rest in his native village of Reklynets, Lviv region.

Volodymyr’s memory endures as that of a fearless defender, a man who lived with passion and conviction, and a true patriot whose sacrifice will forever remain in the hearts of his family, comrades, and Ukrainian nation.
