Biography
Vitalii Petrovych Hura was born on January 28, 1990, in the village of Tomashivka, Khmelnytskyi region. First, he studied at the Pryluk Humanities and Pedagogical College, then at the Grigory Skovoroda University in Pereyaslav. By specialty, he was a physical education teacher.
In civilian life, he worked in polyethylene production in the regional center, where he earned the respect of both colleagues and management. Over time, he advanced to the position of department head. Vitalii had a passion for numismatics and antiques, and he possessed a deep knowledge of history, which reflected his curiosity and dedication to learning.
In August 2023, Vitalii joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving in the 144th Separate Mechanized Brigade. He held the position of squad commander and was known among his comrades by the call sign “Yenot” (Raccoon). The nickname was given to him during training in Latvia, when camouflage paint made him resemble the animal. His leadership, responsibility, and courage quickly made him a trusted figure within his unit.
On June 22, 2024, during combat near the village of Sokil in Donetsk region, Vitalii was fatally wounded while repelling an enemy assault. For a year, he was considered missing in action until his fate was confirmed. His final stand allowed his comrades to withdraw safely, a testament to his selflessness and devotion to his duty. His sacrifice ensured the survival of his unit, marking him as a true hero of Ukraine.
Vitalii Hura was laid to rest in his native Tomashivka, Khmelnytskyi region.
The memory of Junior Sergeant Vitalii Hura lives on as that of a brave soldier, a devoted fiancé, and a man who gave his life so that others might live. His legacy of courage, responsibility, and love for his homeland will forever remain in the hearts of his family, comrades, Ukrainian nation.
