Biography
Denys Oleksandrovych Daineko was born on October 12, 1985, in Luhansk region, in the town of Lutuhyne. He spent his early years studying at Atyushiv Secondary School before his family relocated. From a young age, Denys was known for his determination and strong character, qualities that would later define his path as a defender of Ukraine.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, Denys joined the Volunteer Ukrainian Corps. He underwent training in Khmelnytskyi, Volyn, and Izium, preparing himself for the challenges of frontline service. By April 2022, he was serving in the machine-gun platoon of the fire support company, later becoming part of the 1st Company of the 2nd Rifle Battalion of the 67th Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. His comrades knew him by the call sign “Borzyi” (Brisk), a name that reflected his energy and resilience.
On March 16, 2024, during a combat mission near the village of Ivanivske in Bakhmut district, Donetsk region, Denys was killed in action.
His sacrifice was honored with a farewell ceremony at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Kyiv, where family, friends, and comrades gathered to pay tribute to his courage and devotion.
Denys Daineko was laid to rest in Kyiv.
His name is commemorated on the Alley of Heroes in Korop, Chernihiv region, where he lived and studied in his youth.
He is remembered as a fearless fighter, a loyal comrade, and a true patriot who gave his life for the freedom and independence of Ukraine. His memory endures as a symbol of bravery and unwavering service to his homeland.
