Biography
Yuliia Viktorivna Chaika was born on March 4, 1984, in the city of Marhanets, Dnipropetrovsk region. She later settled in Zaporizhzhia, where she became an active member of her community. Known for her strong principles and vibrant personality, she often took part in civic discussions and was a member of the political organization “Democratic Sokyra.” Yuliia loved music and festivals, and her energy and creativity made her a well-known figure among friends and colleagues.
With the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Yuliia chose to join the National Guard of Ukraine. Determined to defend her homeland, she took up arms and served with courage and dedication. Her call sign “Chaika” reflected her free spirit and resilience. She was remembered as a bright, sincere, and determined woman who stood firm in her beliefs and actions.
On August 18, 2022, Yuliia was killed during a missile strike on the city of Zaporizhzhia, carried out by Russian forces.
Her death was a profound loss for her family, friends, and community, who remembered her not only as a defender of Ukraine but also as a person of great warmth and conviction.
She was laid to rest in Kushuhum, Zaporizhzhia region.
Yuliia’s life combined civic activism with military service. She believed in justice, freedom, and the future of Ukraine, and she gave her life in defense of those ideals. Her memory endures as that of a fearless defender, a woman of principle, and a true patriot whose sacrifice will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones and Ukrainian nation.
