Biography

Oleh Pakhomov was born in the settlement of Deputatskyi, Yakutia, in the Russian Federation. Later, he moved to Ukraine, settling in the city of Kaniv in Cherkasy region, where he built his life and family. He received professional training as a motor mechanic and for many years worked in this field, eventually becoming a private entrepreneur. Beyond his professional duties, Oleh enjoyed home activities and valued the warmth of family life.

In 2016, when Ukraine faced aggression in the east, Oleh did not hesitate to join the defense of his country. He took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation and later in the Joint Forces Operation in Donbas, earning the status of a combatant. His sense of duty was inseparable from his love for his homeland and his family, which he considered the most precious part of his life.

With the outbreak of Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Oleh once again stood in defense of Ukraine. From March 5, 2022, he served in the 46th Separate Assault Battalion “Donbas” of the 54th Mechanized Brigade. As a grenadier, he fought with courage and determination, fulfilling his military oath with honor. On March 10, 2022, during intense combat near the village of Stepne close to Volnovakha in Donetsk region, he sustained fatal injuries.

Oleh’s body could not be evacuated from the battlefield and remained in temporarily occupied territory. Despite this, his memory was honored in Kaniv, where a memorial plaque was installed on the Alley of Defenders of Ukraine.

Posthumously, he was awarded the honorary distinction of the Mayor of Kaniv “For Merits to the City of Kaniv.” On July 18, 2024, he was solemnly buried at the Central Cemetery in Kaniv, in the Alley of Glory, with the community declaring a Day of Mourning in his honor.

Oleh's life story is one of devotion to family, resilience in the face of hardship, and deep loyalty to Ukraine. Though born outside its borders, he chose Ukraine as his home, defended it in times of greatest peril, and ultimately gave his life for its freedom and independence. His memory endures as an example of self-sacrifice and courage.
