Biography
Mykhailo Mykolaiovych Melnyk was born on November 22, 1992, in the village of Kniazhe, Lviv region. He grew up in his native community, where he was known for his kindness, faith, and readiness to help others. After completing his studies at the Chervonohrad Vocational School, he continued his education at the Institute of Sustainable Development named after Viacheslav Chornovil at Lviv Polytechnic National University.
Later, he worked as a cable network installer at the company “Elektrokontakt Ukraine.” Alongside his professional duties, Mykhailo served as a cantor in the local church, dedicating his time to both work and spiritual service.
Faith and compassion were central to his life. He often supported those in need, offering both moral and material assistance. His family and friends remembered him as cheerful, sincere, and devoted to God. He dreamed of a peaceful future for Ukraine, where people could live freely without fear of war.
The full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 changed the course of his life. Mykhailo joined the 103rd Separate Brigade of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Serving in the 64th Battalion, he held the position of deputy commander for moral and psychological support. Known by his call sign “Ksyondz,” he became a source of encouragement for his comrades, lifting their spirits even in the most difficult moments and praying for their safety.
On December 21, 2022, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Vyshneve in Kharkiv region, Mykhailo was killed in action. His death was a profound loss for his family, community, and fellow soldiers.
He was laid to rest in his native village of Kniazhe, where his loved ones honored his memory.
The legacy of Junior Sergeant Mykhailo Melnyk endures as that of a man of faith, compassion, and courage. He devoted his life to God and to Ukraine, standing firm in defense of his homeland. His sacrifice remains a shining example of selflessness and love for his country.
