Biography
Oleksandr Valeriiovych Lysytsia was born on April 3, 1978, in the city of Novovolynsk, Volyn region. He studied at the local Vocational School No.1, where he trained as a builder and auto mechanic. In civilian life, Oleksandr pursued entrepreneurship, running his own car service business. He was known as a hardworking and reliable man, dedicated to his family and respected in his community.
When Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022, Oleksandr did not hesitate to join the defense of his homeland. On February 26, just three days after the invasion began, he enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was assigned to the 63rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, where he served as a machine gunner and later as a squad commander.
Together with his comrades, Oleksandr fought in some of the most intense battles of the war. He took part in the defense of Mykolaiv region, later fought in the battles for Bakhmut, and endured the fierce combat zones of Kherson and Donetsk. Eventually, he was deployed to Luhansk region, where he continued to serve with courage and determination. His comrades knew him by the call sign “Lys” (Fox), a name that reflected his resilience, intellectual flexibility and strength.
On July 2, 2023, during a combat mission near the settlement of Dibrova in Luhansk region, Oleksandr lost his life in combat. His sacrifice was deeply mourned by his family, friends, and fellow soldiers, who remembered him as an honest, purposeful, and patriotic man, a loving father, and a loyal comrade.
Sergeant Oleksandr Lysytsia was laid to rest in his native Novovolynsk, at the Alley of Heroes of the cemetery near Mine No.2.
Through his bravery and commitment to the motherland, Oleksandr earned the respect and admiration of all those around him. He remains forever in the hearts of Ukrainian people, a true defender of his nation.
