Biography

Ruslan Yaroslavovych Kovalyshyn, known by the call sign “Molfar”, was born on October 31, 1976, in the city of Lviv. From childhood, he was active and determined, studying at Secondary School No.92 before continuing his education at the Lviv Higher Vocational School of Information and Computer Technologies. After graduation, he worked as a welder-cutter at the Ukrainian Mining and Metallurgical Company, where he proved himself as a skilled and reliable professional.

Outside of work, Ruslan had a passion for football. He was a devoted supporter of the local club “Karpaty”, and he loved spending his free time with his family. Playing sports and football with his son brought him particular joy, reflecting his deep bond with his loved ones.

In 2014-2015, Ruslan took part in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO), standing in defense of Ukraine during those difficult years. With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion in March 2022, he once again joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. On March 6, 2022, he enlisted to protect his homeland, serving as a sapper in the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.

His call sign “Molfar” was lovingly given to him by his son, symbolizing the strength and wisdom he carried into battle.

On August 6, 2025, during a combat mission near the village of Novoyehorivka, Svatove district, Luhansk region, Ruslan Kovalyshyn suffered a fatal explosive injury.
He was buried in Lviv, at the Field of Honorary Burials in Lychakiv Cemetery, where his memory will forever remain among his family, comrades, and fellow citizens.

Ruslan's family will always remember him as a loving father and husband, as well as a courageous defender of the homeland. His selfless work saved the lives of many of his fellow soldiers, as well as civilians. His life became an example of self-sacrifice and love for his homeland.
