Biography
Pavlo Vasylovych Horkusha was born on July 8, 2001, in the village of Klekotiv, Lviv region. After finishing school, he studied at the Olesko Vocational Lyceum, specializing in hotel and restaurant management. He earned a profession as an administrator and tourism agent, and for a time worked in Kyiv, including at a forge. In 2020, Pavlo began his conscript service, and a year later he signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, committing himself fully to military duty.
He served in the 10th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade “Edelweiss,” holding the position of gunner-operator. From the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Pavlo fought alongside his comrades, defending Ukraine in some of the most difficult areas of the front. Known by his call sign “Pashtet,” he was remembered as cheerful, sociable, and always ready to support those around him. His laughter and energy lifted the spirits of his fellow soldiers, and his courage inspired confidence in the face of danger.
On December 8, 2023, during combat operations near the village of Berestove in Donetsk region, Pavlo was fatally wounded by enemy shelling. He was only 22 years old. His sacrifice was recognized with the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class, awarded posthumously. He was laid to rest with honor on the Alley of Glory in the city of Brody, Lviv region.
Pavlo’s family, friends, and comrades remembered him as a devoted brother, loyal companion, and fearless defender of Ukraine. His life, though short, was marked by service, resilience, and love for his homeland.
The memory of Soldier Pavlo Horkusha endures as a symbol of youthful bravery and selfless sacrifice. His courage and devotion to Ukraine will forever remain cherished in the hearts of those who knew him and in the people of the country he gave his life to protect.
