Biography
Oleksandr Oleksandrovych Boiko was born on April 29, 1995, in the city of Sloviansk, Donetsk region. He studied at local schools No. 15 and No. 5, later continuing his education at the Sloviansk College of Transport Infrastructure. In 2015, he entered the Kharkiv National Air Force University named after Ivan Kozhedub, where he pursued his dream of serving in aviation. His dedication and discipline marked him as a promising young officer.
In December 2013, Oleksandr began his military service under contract in Sevastopol. During the dramatic events of 2014, when Russian forces occupied Crimea, he remained loyal to his oath. He was among the fifty Ukrainian servicemen led by Colonel Yurii Mamchur who marched under the Ukrainian flag toward armed occupiers blocking the Belbek airfield. Singing the national anthem and carrying their brigade’s battle flag, they stood firm in the face of intimidation, a moment that became symbolic of Ukraine’s resilience. Oleksandr continued his service afterward, proving his steadfastness and devotion to his country.
He served in the 204th Tactical Aviation Brigade, working as a senior mechanic in the engineering and aviation service. His professionalism and reliability earned him numerous awards, including the badge “For Exemplary Service,” which he received personally from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine.
He was also honored with distinctions marking his contribution to the Air Force and his alma mater. His comrades remembered him as a bright, kind, and principled man, devoted to his fellow soldiers and to Ukraine.
On September 29, 2023, Oleksandr was killed during a missile strike on the operational airfield in Mykolaiv while performing a combat mission.
Posthumously, he was awarded the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class, the honorary “Combatant’s Cross,” and the Ministry of Defense distinction “Cross of Valor.”
Oleksandr Boiko was laid to rest in his native Sloviansk, at the Northern Cemetery.
His memory endures as that of a loyal son of Ukraine, a courageous defender, and a man whose sacrifice will forever remain in the hearts of his family, comrades, and nation.
