Biography

Maksym Oleksandrovych Bahniuk was born on May 11, 1999, in the city of Novovolynsk, Volyn region.
Later, his family moved to the settlement of Blahodatne, where he grew up and studied. He attended Novovolynsk Secondary School No.8 and later continued his education at the Novovolynsk Regional Boarding Lyceum.
His dedication to learning and discipline led him to pursue a military career, and in 2016 he entered the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy in Lviv. In 2020, he graduated as a senior lieutenant of the infantry forces.

From 2020 onward, Maksym served as a career officer in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stationed in Mariupol with military unit A2962. His professionalism and commitment were recognized with honors, including commendations from the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and medals for participating in the 2018 military parade and the March of Defenders of Ukraine.

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, Maksym continued his service with unwavering determination. He became commander of the 2nd Motorized Infantry Platoon of the 2nd Motorized Infantry Company in the 21st Separate Battalion “Sarmat” of the 56th Brigade. Despite sustaining injuries during combat, he returned to the frontlines after recovery, embodying resilience and devotion to duty.

On August 11, 2022, during fierce fighting near the village of Pisky in Donetsk region, Maksym was killed in action while carrying out combat tasks to defend Ukraine’s sovereignty and independence.

Senior Lieutenant Maksym Bahniuk was laid to rest in Blahodatne, Volyn region.
His sacrifice is remembered as an example of courage, loyalty, and patriotism. Though his life was short, his legacy as a fearless warrior and defender of Ukraine continues to embody the spirit of perseverance, and love for Ukraine.
